Positive Living Solution will cover topics to educate and promote living a healthy and safe lifestyle. Achieving this calls for a willingness to adapt to change as we advance in years because in doing so we will prepare to avoid disabling injuries and health issues.
Knowledge is power, and whether we like it or not, growing older is a normal part of living. It is a time when we have gained so much through life experience, yet to maintain the quality of living we now enjoy, the joie de vivre we relish, lets plan ahead in a positive way.
As a Baby Boomer with a masters degree in gerontology, I am all too aware of the necessity to plan where and how we live in future years. NOW is the right time to start living with the intention of being as healthy as possible into old age. Although our genes can predetermine certain illnesses, the POSITIVE LIVING choices we make at all stages help shape our overall health.
Personal experience as a real estate professional in the Greater Boston area where much of the housing stock is older and often described as having been designed for ‘Peter-Pan’ living (without consideration for growing old), created an awareness of the possible negative consequence of living in spaces unsuitable for aging safely.
National certifications in aspects of universal design (UD) and home modifications for safer living led to providing services on transitions throughout our lifetime. Therefore I encourage fellow ‘boomers’ and people of all ages to join in learning more relating to preventative measures in health, good housing choices and safer living choices.
Any thoughts/suggestions/requests on specific topics would be appreciated, as a purpose of this writing is also to discover what people would like to hear about. Discussing our future health and safety will hopefully enlighten the reader on issues they may not have given much thought to up to now.
